26TH STREET, BETWEEN 21 & 19, VEDADO, HAVANA
LaB 26 is located in El Vedado, on 26th Ave. between 19th St. and 21st, this is the group's stage for exhibitions and commercial management. Ever since its inauguration, in June, 2015, during the 12th Biennale of Havana, this gallery has interrelated Architecture_Design_Art; and it has been a space for the confluence of knowledge, debates, conversations, conferences, workshops, contests, and exchanges.
LaB.26 displays throughout its spaces the rationalist and modern architectonic aesthetic along with essential aspects from Cuban architectonic traditions; this place is the result of the recovery and rehabilitation of a typical eclectic house from the first half of the 20th C. architecture in Havana.
Resembling traditional times, it features the necessary adjustments to adapt itself to weather conditions; the natural passage between interior and exterior, the usage of skylights to improve the lighting, the traditional inner courtyards, and the inclusion of vegetation as a complement. At the same time, this building is a clear statement of predilection for geometric language, clean shapes, volume clarity, and chromatic and formal minimalism.
This gallery works as a "lab" that focuses on encouraging new architects and artists to exhibit their work. In addition, it is also an opportunity for the coming generation of designers.
